This is a temporary position with employment dates from 02/15/2026 to 12/01/2026. Closing date: 07/09/2026. Responsibilities Plant seedlings or 'liners' by hand, including riding and inserting liners in a mechanical planter using a mattock or dibble. Fertilize, prune, spray, space, water, tag, and perform other plant maintenance. Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants. Mix and apply fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant‑related treatments at the correct times. Load finished plants onto wagons and trucks. Plant and dig field‑grown plants, burlap roots, and perform general maintenance of field‑grown plants. Prepare trees for digging by tying or wrapping as necessary. Hand‑dig trees with shovel or tree spade. Follow supervisor’s instructions on pruning/shearing and shear trees with proper taper and bud‑cut angle for quality. Handle products carefully to prevent damage. Perform ground packaging of finished root balls on a tree: staple burlap with hog‑ring pliers, tie basket loops with twine, crimp baskets with pig‑tail crimpers, or tie branches with twine. Tie branches with twine or haul trees through the field and load them onto trucks by hand or machine. Hand‑dig trees, shovel dirt, and fill holes after digging is complete. Loading and unloading: tie B & B trees to a flat‑bed trailer with twine and load or unload bare‑root trees by hand or machine into trailers. Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs. Perform boxing, weighing, and loading of product up to 60 lb and lift to a height of 5 ft for long periods. Work on the ground for long periods, standing on feet for extended times, enduring repetitive movements and extensive walking. Work during various weather conditions: dew, light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity, and temperatures ranging from 10 °F to 100 °F, including occasional showers that do not halt field operations. Requirements Minimum of three months of prior experience working in a balled and burlap tree nursery. Experience operating 50+ hp nursery equipment, performing both manual and mechanized tasks. Ability to perform manual and mechanized activities with accuracy and efficiency. Verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Physical ability to lift/carry 60 lb, lift to 5 ft, and work on feet for long periods. Must be able to work Saturdays. Tolerance to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals. Ability to work in temperatures from 10 °F to 100 °F and through light rain, snow, moderate winds, and high humidity. #J-18808-Ljbffr
